Over the Mouth Neck Corset
This is the over the mouth neck corset I made for a part of my final project in my Fashion Visuals class.
The challenge was to use recycled materials to produce a new outfit.
This particular piece I felt warranted its own deviation simply for how difficult it was to make.
I am a first year college student so the act of making an article of clothing this complex baffled me. Especially with my limited construction and pattern making knowledge.
The hell was I thinking?!
It took over 10 patterns and 4 prototypes to get it to look as it does now.
There are no tutorials online that I could find for a neck corset such as this, let along instructions to make a pattern for one. Using Recycled materials does not help at all.
The neck corset does not always stay flat when my model moves around and it bunches up a bit near the back where the shoulder meets the neck.
Overall though, I am at least glad to say I know how to make it cover the mouth fairly well and have the back meet up straight up and down.
Materials used to create this garment are red jeans, black jeans, plastic bottles (for boning) and christmas ribbon. Eyelets and hand bound eyelets were used to lace the corset.
